online auction design
Gojoy paired up with CBX and launched their Joy coin ICO in the form of a dutch auction. The goal of this project was to design a user-friendly auction interface for mobile and desktop browsers and also "how to bid" documents explaining game rules.
challenges & process
The online auction was targeting the tech-savvy crypto crowd. However, its form, the dutch auction, is not something that everybody is familiar with so from the beginning it was decided that we will need to design supporting documents that should be shared over on customer support dedicated channels.
The project was difficult because the auction was supposed to be run only for 72 hours so everything had to work flawlessly from the very beginning. After a few rounds of user flow updates and early prototypes, we decided that some elements of gamification are necessary to encourage users to bid higher. We revealed the number of higher bidders and let users check 3 times the total number of coins being bet.
The final UI was simplified to a minimum and sent to development and testing by an external team. I focused on designing supporting documents.
In the end, there were some small unpredicted and untested scenarios related to external platform authentication, however, the auction itself was a success (ICO $10M ) and resulted in launching later a second smaller round in a form of an HTML game.
